First a quick geography lesson. Here is a map. Iran is in red. Bordered by Afghanistan and Pakistan on the West. Turkey and Iraq on the East. The Persian Gulf is to the South and the Caspian Sea is to the North.
What do you need to know about Iran? Well it’s the world’s only modern theocracy. This means it’s governed according to Islamic law (that’s right, alcohol is illegal!!!), but a lot of people, especially in the cities, are not very religious at all. Many of them totally hate their own government (but that could go for almost any country!).
Tehran, the capital, has about the population of Australia. It’s packed and quite polluted. It’s surrounded by mountains to the North (which help keep the pollution in) and desert in most other directions.
